Cathy enjoys visiting Agricultural Colleges around the country and can bring an added depth to any Horse courses that are run. Again Cathy likes to twin class room lectures with practical demonstrations and enjoys watching the students as they begin to learn some of the easy horse handling skills she has to teach.
Some lectures that she is able to presented are:
A must for any person dealing with horses. Here Cathy teaches the student the art of observation and the ability to touch the horse in order to find areas of tension and/or soreness. A definite bonus when working with competition or school horses.
Do horses see what we see? In this fascinating lecture Cathy delves into the anatomy of the equine eye and ingeniously, by using practical demonstrations with the students, gets the students to view the world as a horse would.
As an Equine Dentist Cathy is well qualified to talk about the insides of the horses mouth and to show students what sharp teeth feel like. Within this lecture Cathy will show students how to perform a basic dental check, thus allowing them to check for problems between dentist visits. She will also talk about mouth conformation and how this will affect the type of bit used.
A brief over view of the anatomy of the spine and then the students will be taught a technique to ascertain the health of the back and to check for problem areas. The students will then be shown how to extract secretes from a dirty numnah and how to measure a horse for a well fitting saddle. They will then be asked to match a saddle to a horse that fits by this method.
Much controversy is in the press these days regarding whether to shoe or not to shoe. In this lecture Cathy goes over the hoof anatomy and shows students the amazing ability of the hoof to resist total break down and support the weight of a horse. She will leave the students with the ability to assess a well trimmed hoof whether for barefoot or for a shoe.
Most horses will need to be loaded at sometime in their life. But have you ever thought that we never actually teach them to do so – similarly for leading. Within this lecture Cathy will talk the students through how to load an unwilling horse, and with the aid of her video will show 3 easy steps that she has found to be 100% successful. A must for any person working with horses.
Within this lecture is a brief history of shiatsu and the students will then be given an understanding of how to use energy to heal and perform a basic shatsu treatment.
As part of the diploma courses alternative therapies are looked at and Cathy can help with her experiences with Shiatsu, Tteam, aromatherapy, bach flower remedies to give the student a basic understanding of how these can be integrated into general horsemanship skills.
